Dear Google Guru, no one uses Google+ so why worry about Google reviews at all? Isn’t Yelp so much more popular?

guruthumb

While it may be true that Yelp has been in the game since 2004, longer than its arch nemesis and rival Google+, but to claim that “no one uses Google+” is a statement that is very much up for debate. Even, “Yelp is so much more popular” has its own set of misassumptions. Google is Considerably Larger The behemoth that is Google is one of the most recognizable and popular search engines in the world. Everyone knows what Google is and almost everyone has googled something before in his or her … [Read more...]

Dear Google Guru, I keep hearing about Digital Darwinism. How can I adapt my online marketing strategy so that my company will succeed in the age of ever-changing technology?

guruthumb

You are probably not surprised to learn that you’re not alone in your concern. Digital Darwinism is a growing fear, and not just for small-midsized companies, it’s also a problem that Fortune 500 companies are facing. This topic was heavily discussed at the Digital Strategy Innovation Summit I recently attended in New York with my management team. The key to combating Digital Darwinism lies in a corporation’s ability to adapt to changing technology. But, it’s not enough to simply adapt; we … [Read more...]

Dear Google Guru, I’ve heard some rumours that Google is developing a new ranking index for mobile search. How could it affect SEO if Google does develop two separate ranking indexes? What other changes are we going to see when it comes to mobile search?

guruthumb

As of right now, there isn’t much information about Google’s new mobile ranking index. Google’s Gary Lllyes has hinted that the search giant has been working on a separate ranking index for mobile search, but so far Google hasn’t released a formal statement on when they plan to make this kind of change. If or when Google releases a separate ranking index for mobile, it will change how SEO is approached and SEOs will have to start to focus more on user experience on multiple platforms, including … [Read more...]

Dear Google Guru, I Google searched for my cabinet manufacturing company on my iPhone using some of our primary keywords. I noticed that our rankings seem to slipping for keywords that we used to rank high on. We haven’t redesigned our site since it was originally designed in 2003, but could that really be affecting our SEO rankings?

guruthumb

Absolutely. If your site hasn’t been redesigned in 11 years, it’s probably a nightmare to use on any mobile device, whether it be a tablet or smartphone. Now this wouldn’t have mattered a few years ago, when mobile web access was just starting to develop, but with the prevalence of mobile web today it’s very important to have a website that is easy to use on any mobile device. Since the introduction of mobile web, Google’s updates have continued to focus on improving user experience for … [Read more...]

Dear Google Guru, I recently read an article where Eric Schmidt, the Executive Chairman of Google, predicted the end of the internet. Do you agree? What will the end of the internet mean for businesses that advertise online?

guruthumb

I absolutely believe that the end of the internet as we know it today is not only near but it’s here. Now, that’s not to say the internet is going to fade away and Eric Schmidt wasn’t referring to the death or disappearance of the internet. He was talking about the integration of the internet into our daily lives, more so than it already is, through devices like our cars, appliances, phones and even rooms in our houses. So, the internet isn’t going away by any means, but the way we interact with … [Read more...]
